Terms of Service
Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]
1. Acceptance of these terms
By using Compass Claims (the “Service”), operated by [LEGAL ENTITY], you agree to these Terms of Service and to our privacy practices. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What Compass Claims is — and is not
Compass Claims is an educational and informational tool that helps veterans understand the VA disability claims process: diagnostic codes, combined-rating math, secondary and presumptive conditions, and how past decisions have been reasoned.
It is not:
- Legal advice, and using it does not create an attorney–client relationship.
- Medical advice, and it does not create a doctor–patient relationship.
- Financial advice.
- Affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any government agency.
We strongly recommend consulting a VA-accredited Veterans Service Organization (American Legion, DAV, VFW, AMVETS) or an accredited attorney or claims agent before filing or appealing.
3. Estimates, not guarantees
The rating math the Service performs follows 38 CFR §4.25 exactly. But any rating shown for an undetermined condition is an estimate of what your documented symptoms may support, not a prediction of what the VA will decide.
Actual VA decisions turn on factors the Service cannot determine for you: range-of-motion measurements, occupational impairment, frequency and severity, medication, incapacitating episodes, examiner findings, pyramiding, analogous ratings, effective dates, and competing diagnostic codes. We do not guarantee any particular outcome.
Where the Service cites Board of Veterans’ Appeals decisions, those are illustrative and non-precedential. See how we weigh our sources on the How it works page.
4. Your records & privacy
How we handle the documents and information you provide is described in full in our privacy hub, “How We Protect Your Records.” In short: we keep no server-side copy of your records, redact personal identifiers before any external processing, and never use your data to train AI models. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload records belonging to someone else without their authorization.
- Use the Service to provide legal, medical, or financial advice to third parties as if it were professional counsel.
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or compromise the Service.
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
6. Intellectual property
The Service’s software, design, and original content are owned by [LEGAL ENTITY] and protected by applicable law. Underlying VA rating data derives from public sources (38 CFR Part 4 and related materials). You keep all rights to the records and content you provide.
7. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party AI providers and infrastructure, disclosed in our privacy hub. We are not responsible for the availability or conduct of third-party services, and links to outside resources (such as VA.gov) are provided for convenience only.
8. No warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any estimate it produces is correct.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, [LEGAL ENTITY] and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any decision you make about your VA benefits, arising out of your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
10. Changes & governing law
We may update these terms from time to time; material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms. These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION].
